Government Degree College, Kandaghat
Government Degree College, Kandaghat, Solan, established in 2016, offers undergraduate courses in
the fields of Humanities and Commerce. B.Sc. (Medical and Non-Medical) has been introduced from the
2022–23 academic session onwards. The town of Kandaghat, where this college is situated, is of historical
importance, as the late Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the ruler of Patiala State, came from Shimla and built his
first palace at Kandaghat. In pre-independence days, Kandaghat was known as ‘Kohistan’.

Brief History
Kandaghat has long held historical importance. Known as ‘Kohistan’ before independence, it was where the late Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala State built his first palace. Government Degree College, Kandaghat grew from this heritage.
- 2016 – Founding: The college was established in a Government of Himachal Pradesh property, originally the residence of Raja Dhaulpur, to provide accessible, quality higher education to rural and adjoining areas.
- Early years – Growth: Undergraduate courses in Humanities and Commerce were offered, with steady academic and infrastructural development.
- 2022–23 – Expansion: B.Sc. (Medical and Non-Medical) was introduced, extending the college into the sciences.
- Today: The college has 15 departments across Humanities, Commerce and Science.
