Government Degree College Kandaghat, Solan established in the year 2016, offers undergraduate courses in
the field of Humanities, Commerce. B.Sc. (Medical and Non-Medical) is being started from this academic
session i.e. 2022-23 onwards. The town of Kandaghat, where this college is situated, is of historical
importance as the Late Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the ruler of Patiala state, came from Shimla and built his
first Palace at Kandaghat. During pre-independence days, Kandaghat used to be known as 'Kohistan'.
The College was started in the year 2016 in one of the properties vested in the Government of Himachal
Pradesh, which was originally the residence of Raja Dhaulpur, a palace constructed by Maharaja Patiala,
Yadavindra Singh. This palace used to be the seat of the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of
Police and also the summer capital of the princely state of Patiala. After independence this town became a
part of the erstwhile PEPSU state (Patiala and East Punjab State Union).
The original building of the college has always rendered services to the people of the region as it was earlier
used for the purpose of hospital and then housed the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The building
was also converted into a Food Testing Laboratory for a short period of time. Subsequently, as the need for
college was felt, this building again opened its arms and was notified as Government Degree College in
December 2015. The foundation stone of the college was laid on December 30, 2016 by the then Chief
Minister, Late Shri Virbhadra Singh. The Institution is located on the lush green hill known as Srinagar.
The institution provides every possible medium for academic, moral and intellectual growth of the students
in the socio- cultural sphere.
